Introduction
- In 2019, the project led by Toei Animation producer Satoshi Hirayama began the conception and production of the animation.
- On June 27, 2021, Universal Music, Toei Animation, and agehasprings announced the "Girl's Rock Audition" to recruit members for a new band project. It was also announced that the project would include an animated work produced by Toei Animation.
- On April 24, 2023, the announcement of the completely new original animation GIRLS BAND CRY was made. The MV and project information were scheduled to be released on May 29.
- On May 29, 2023, the MV and project information were released.
- The producer, director, and series composition of this work have collaborated again sinceLove Live! Sunshine!!.
- On December 20, 2023, it was announced at the "Get to KAWASAKI 2023" concert that the work would be broadcast in April 2024.
- On February 9, 2024, the main PV was released, and it was announced that the broadcast would start on April 5, 2024.

Synopsis
