"Maitetsu"(Japanese:まいてつ) is a romance adventure visual novel developed by Lose, with series derivatives including manga, a photography app, and an anime. On October 30, 2020, "Maitetsu: Last Run!!" was released with additional story content, including after-stories for existing routes and new routes, as well as a rewritten grand route. The original "Maitetsu" is correspondingly referred to as "Maitetsu: Pure Station".
Synopsis
Humanoid modules that control railway trains—RailLords.
Hachiroku, the dedicated RailLord for the former Imperial Railway 8620-type steam locomotive's lead engine, 8620, was decommissioned along with many other RailLords following the Great Abolition and fell into a long sleep.
A young man named Migita Sotetsu lost his family in an accident caused by the Great Abandonment, and was later adopted by the Migita family, who run a brewery in Ohitoyo City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
After growing up and gaining admission to the Imperial University, he returned to Ohitoyo to save his second hometown from water pollution caused by factory construction projects.
There, he accidentally awakened Hachiroku and subsequently became her master.
To achieve their respective goals, Sotetsu and Hachiroku resolved to find the missing 8620 steam locomotive.
With the full support of Sotetsu's art-loving stepsister Hibiki and the Mayor of Ohitoyo and President of Ohitoyo Railway, Paulette, they work together toward the goal of reviving the 8620.

The all-ages console port of "-Last Run-", which was later reverse-ported to PC. This version features controller support, high-definition graphics, an optimized UI, and minor adjustments to game content.

Originally, he lost his purpose in life due to the accident, but after establishing the new goal of "repaying the Migita family," he gradually moved on and recovered enough to lead a normal life.
However, as a result, he rarely shows strong emotions; to put it positively, he is extremely rational, but to put it negatively, he is cold and detached.
To stop the establishment of an Aerocraft factory, he returned to Ohitoyo, which he had left to attend university. However, after accidentally awakening Hachiroku, he is forced to face the railway that took his family away.

At the time of the Imperial Railway's dissolution, she was purchased along with the 8620 and transported to Ohitoyo, where she has remained dormant until now.
Possessing the ability, intellect, refinement, and poise befitting the role of the first RailLord, she is the epitome of a Yamato Nadeshiko.
However, after waking up, she suffered from a significant decline in performance and even wept in secret.
But aside from Sotetsu, no one has seen Hachiroku in such a state. In public, Hachiroku is always efficient, decisive, and full of confidence, consistently delivering perfect results as the most outstanding RailLord.
The stepsister of the protagonist, Sotetsu Migita. She loves drawing and channels that passion into creating signs and illustrated maps for Ohitoyo.
She has an upright and optimistic personality. She is very good at discovering the strengths in people and things.
Feeling inferior to her overly capable older sister, she suppressed her love for painting. However, she opened her heart under Sotetsu's encouragement that "there's nothing wrong with loving painting," leading her to respect and love him. At the same time, she gradually realized that her feelings for Sotetsu were mixed with something other than just respect.
She feels deeply embarrassed and conflicted about this, living through days where she cannot face Sotetsu honestly and finds it difficult to express her feelings.
The young mayor of Ohitoyo City who inherited her late father's will and led the opposition against the establishment of an Aerocraft factory in Ohitoyo. She also serves as the president of the Ohitoyo Railway Corporation.
She is also the driver of the Ohitoyo Railway KiHa 07S diesel railcar, and her relationship with its dedicated Railord, Reina, is as close as that of biological sisters.
She loves railways very much and will talk incessantly once asked about them.
She has a very strong sense of responsibility, sometimes to the point of being crushed by it, but she is always pulled back by Reina's easygoing personality.

Having once played an active role on a mining railway and witnessed its journey from prosperity to decline and eventual abandonment, she possesses a wealth of life experience.
She holds a fondness for everything, making one wonder if there is anything in the world she dislikes; she is a natural at acting spoiled.
She is very popular with animals and babies, and her communication with them is so good that one often feels as if she is actually conversing with them.
The head of Ohitoyo's representative shochu distillery, Migita-ichi Distillery, and the stepsister of Migita Sotetsu.
Not to mention her taste in brewing, her management skills are also quite impressive; despite her young age, she is a highly trusted figure in the merchant association.
Because her parents are away for long periods, she has effectively become the housewife supporting the Migita family, possessing a great capacity for tolerance.
She was attracted to Sotetsu from their first meeting, but after noticing that her younger sister was also attracted to him, she has kept those feelings tucked away in her heart.
It goes without saying how much the warm and ordinary daily life built by Makura and Hibiki has helped heal the wounds in Sotetsu's heart.
The only daughter of Hosho Mototada, the president of Kumamoto Bank; while still a student, she also serves as the manager of the Kumamoto Bank Ohitoyo Branch.
She happened to meet Hibiki at school and, noticing her talent for painting, created an environment where she could fully utilize it; she is a reliable upperclassman.
She believes that for Ohitoyo City to escape its economic difficulties, there is no other way but to bring in an Aerocra factory, and she is actively working toward that goal.
Strong-willed, values rationality, and is a realist.
To some extent, she shares a similar personality with Sotetsu; despite their opposing stances, they get along very well.
The poster girl of the Minogasa Blacksmith Shop who loves sword practice and Fukami, and is completely unaware of her own charm.
With a loud voice and overflowing energy, she is the epitome of transparency and is well-loved both at school and in the neighborhood.
A personality as straightforward as bamboo combined with a head as empty as a bamboo joint; she is very simple and impulsive.
She is good at and enjoys sports. Being interested in the way Fukami steers the rafting boat, she came to help, and the two quickly became close friends.
She has absolutely no interest in romance; rather, she doesn't even have a clear awareness of herself as a woman.
A girl who has endured many hardships, running Ohitoyo's pride and joy—the Kuma River Rafting—in place of her frail and sickly mother.
Quiet and introverted by nature, she loves reading, but out of necessity for her livelihood, she has mastered the art of professional customer service talk.
Conversely, she is completely unwilling to express her own opinions in private; if Nagi didn't speak up for her, she would just be led around by others.
Therefore, she is very dependent on Nagi and admires her cheerful personality.
Under the influence of her love for reading, she has a wild and vivid imagination.
From time to time, she fantasizes, "If only Nagi-chan were a boy...", and then rolls around on her bed wrapped in her duvet.Non-Player Character
Using his significant influence, he single-handedly brought the Aerocraft factory, which all of Japan was competing for, to Ohitoyo.
A complete meritocrat and consequentialist; although he appointed his daughter, Kisaki Hosho, as a branch manager, it was not out of nepotism.
Conversely, as long as he can achieve his goals, he ignores public opinion entirely, such is his arrogance. His strong personality makes those around him either friends or foes, with no middle ground.
Originally only forged farm tools, but after the Great Abandonment, the channels for Ohitoyo Railway to obtain vehicle parts were severely restricted, so he also tries his best to take on some forging work for parts.
He looks like a nice old man and indeed dotes on his granddaughter, but he is never sloppy when it comes to work.

Starting from July 29, 2017, Lose released a web radio program every other Saturday on the official website of "御一夜鉄道 まいてつラジオ".
App
The "Maitetsu" series also released an AR camera photography app "Maitetsu pure station AR Camera" on the iOS platform[6]. The app's function is to use AR technology to allow Railord characters to take photos with scenes captured by the smartphone camera. At the time, it also featured a mini-game where players could feed coal to the Railords by throwing it. It was later renamed and expanded with multiple Railord characters, the coal-feeding mini-game was removed, a 1/7 scale Railord display function was added, and the app was renamed "Rail Romanesque CAMERA"[7]. An Android version of the same name was also released in the first half of 2020.The app has now been removed from both the App Store and Google Play.

On December 28, 2019, an anime adaptation was announced at the C97 venue. The anime is a short-form series with 5-minute episodes, totaling 12 episodes. The title is "Rail Romanesque" (レヱル・ロマネスク, Rail Romanesque), which premiered on TOKYO MX starting October 2, 2020.
On October 7, 2022, the PV for the second season was released at the "Lose Last Concert," and it began broadcasting on October 5, 2023.
Hachiroku and Reina, the protagonists of the original game, only make cameo appearances or are mentioned, serving as the senior Raillords in the series(actually said to be because the VAs were unavailable). The Raillords in the anime, except forWatermelon, are all original new characters.
In addition, Lose also produced the audio series "Chikuon Rail" telling side stories of some characters in "Rail Romanesque".

Cancellation of the Support Ticket Set
After the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, in order to recover the passenger traffic that had drastically decreased due to the earthquake, Kumagawa Railroad in Kumamoto Prefecture collaborated with Lose to launch a special ticket set project. Based on the five "田園シンフォニー" trains of Kumagawa Railroad, a limited edition set of five tickets featuring bishoujo characters and AR functionality titled "くまてつ" was scheduled for release on October 8. However, local residents complained on the grounds that "the characters on the tickets resemble the characters in *Maitetsu*," and on September 28, two councilors filed a complaint with the Hitoyoshi City Council, leading to the cancellation of the sale.[11][12]
Post-disaster Reconstruction
The *Maitetsu* series, which once faced resistance for offline activities due to positioning issues, reached a small peak in 2021. Due to the flooding of the Kuma River caused by heavy rains in July 2020, local houses and transportation facilities in the setting (Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto) were severely damaged, and the regional economy and tourism industry suffered significantly. The Hisatsu Line railway, where the prototype SL Hitoyoshi train runs, was washed away along the Kuma River, and multiple railway bridges were swept into the river. Subsequently, in 2021, the Hitoyoshi area held multiple offline events in collaboration with the *Maitetsu* series.（Delicious!）, with the event named "Rail Romance Summit in Hitoyoshi"(Machine translation)", the most recent one was in January 2022.
