Nian's reason for doing this was that Dusk once forced ice cream into Nian's hotpot and secretly emptied all of Nian's chili sauce. Once traveled withSagathe abbot (when he was young) through the landscapes of Yan. When the two parted, Dusk gave a painting to the (future) abbot. Once traveled to a village called "Poshan Town," rescued a girl named "Li" from the village, and taught her to paint, though Li never picked up a brush. After Li died of old age, Dusk painted "Li" into a scroll, letting her serve as a pawnshop clerk within her painting. Watched Lava, Kroos, and Mr. Nothing's journey through the painting in the guise of the storyteller "Mr. Umbrella-Boiler." Made a bet with Nian on "whether anyone could see through being inside a painting"; Saga's sudden appearance caused Nian to win the bet. Nian pointed out that Dusk is afraid that the revival of "Sui" will cause "Dusk" to disappear. Went to Rhodes Island under Kroos's promise of "being able to eat at least seventeen famous local restaurants."
